Community Service:  Granges are encouraged to assess the needs of their community in order to determine projects.  The focus for awarding prizes from the National Grange has been changed.  The focus is now on a final report submitted by the Subordinate Grange to the State Director.  It will consist of a detailed report of projects and the total hours worked on each project.  Report form will be compiled by the State Community Service Director and sent to each Grange.  Final Report is to be sent to the State Community Service Director by August 25, 2010.   National Grange will be awarding cash prizes for the top four Community Service reports in each state.

Stuffed Animal Project: new Project beginning for 2010.  Our local Sheriff agreed this would be a great project.  Any small cuddly stuffed “teddy bear” or any other animal that will fit in a gallon or larger zip lock bag (Community Service Director will furnish zip lock bags).  Or small quilts no larger then crib size.  Bring these items to our State Session.  These items will not be judged but you can take back to your respective areas to be given to your local EMS, Police, or Fire teams.  The Community Service Director would like to know your count and you can put that in your notebooksNotebooks are to be sent direct to State Community Service Director.

Coats for Kids: Not everyone child is fortunate enough to have access to a winter coat without someone helping to provide one so this project is extremely important.

Make a Difference Day:   It is so important to help out when we can and with our example perhaps good deeds can be played forward. The hours spent on this project can be added to your final report to the State Community Director by August 25, 2010:

- Volunteer to help wherever needed (in schools, churches, day care, or nursing homes, etc.)

      anytime during the year.

- You can help children, the homeless, the environment, your elderly neighbor or your town.  Do

something simple, like donating food or make huge changes by joining with others in a large

      project.

Mentoring:  This was a new project in 2009Please help someone accomplish something to enrich their lives.  This ties in with our “Make a Difference Day”.

Community Recognition Program:  To participate in this program each Subordinate Grange should submit candidates to be honored as Police Officer, Firefighter or Teacher of the Year by the National Grange.  Include in your Community Service Notebook.  Community Recognition of these individuals who are dedicated workers in their field is important.  This is our way of saying, “Thank You.”  Take pictures and invite a member of your local newspaper to attend this special program of recognition or send a picture and write up to your local paper.

Foster Family Recognition:    Please recommend a foster family in your community for the Community Citizen’s Award in the Community Service Department.

Battered Women:   Provide some of the necessities to help where you can, such as: personal items, linens, etc.

Dyslexia Education:    Please help in this field to understand those in need.  Contact your schools or libraries for more information.  We can all benefit.
