YOUTH / YOUNG ADULT ACTIVITIES

State Program

As Pomona or Subordinate Youth Chairman, you hold the key to youth activities.  The State goal is to have a youth chairman in every Grange and to hold conferences or campouts to provide opportunities for Grange youth and young adults.  Also to hold a youth night at State Grange Session, and to encourage youth and families to attend and participate in youth activities at the North and South Junior/Family camps in June and July.

Youth chairman should report at all meetings, encourage interaction between members of all ages, promote Subordinate, State, and National projects and contests, and publicize all activities.

STATE AND NATIONAL CONTESTS:

Sign-A-Song Contest:   Promoting the use of non-verbal skills of communication.  Thiscontest encourages members of all ages to learn and demonstrate signing.  Participants in local Grange signing programs can participate in State, Regional and National competitions.  Sign-A-Song training at summer camp.

Public Speaking:  This program enables a person to build self-confidence and improve his/her ability to communicate.  Topic of your choice.  See National Rules also.  Public speaking training at Summer camp.

Horizon Leadership Ambassador:  Idaho State will select one male and one female Youth Ambassador to represent them at the National Grange Convention in 2010.  There they will participate in expanded educational and leadership development opportunities, the National Grange Convention meetings, functions, and planned recreational activities.

Most Creative Youth Night Program:  Purpose:  to promote creativity and spark enthusiasm in the community with a youth night program.

Idaho State Poster Program:  Purpose:  To have the local Grange Youth and Junior Grangers work together to become involved in the promotion of a safety poster contest at their area elementary schools.  The involvement of our youth will help to promote the Grange in communities all across Idaho.

Family Recognition Program:  This program is designed to recognize active families, single parent families, young couples and generational families in the Grange.  Subordinate (community) Granges, Pomona Granges, and State Granges who have families involved are encouraged to nominate the family for National Recognition.  Each family nominated will receive a certificate.

Five types of families that can be recognized:

Traditional young family Recognition Award – Father, Mother and children (children must be under 25 years of age).

Single Parent Family Recognition Award – Mother or Father and children (children must be under 25 years of age).

Generational Family Recognition Award – Grandparents or other relative raising children.

Multi-Generation Family Recognition Award – the award is to recognize those families who have multiple generations currently involved in the Grange organization.

Young Couple Award – individuals who are married to each other and are significantly contributing to the Grange at any level are eligible for nomination.  At least one of the individuals should be under the age of 40.
